The Canyon can be accessed by various trails, some within the National Park, others inside the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness. There are several commercial outfitters offering one to three day float trips through the Gorge section of the Canyon, encompassing 14 miles of outstanding fishing and unparalleled scenery.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison is amazing and well worth the visit. We spent all day on the south rim and drove down to the bottom. We stayed in Montrose so we took a cooler with food for picnicing (There is no food to buy in the park).

We chose the Boca Negra Canyon trail due to the fact that there are quite a few within eyesight on the shorter trails.
